   MingScan Mapping Pads

Introduction

The MingScan Mapping Pads were developed solely by Vers Tech Science Company. These new innovative pads are able to accurately record and easily depict a patient's foot pressure after gait examination. The results of the gait examination can be simply and quickly obtained by visual inspection and used as a reference for medical assessment and corrective procedures

Area of Usage

Podiatry, Biomechanics, Athletic Evaluation, and Insole Manufactures.

  • Plantar pressure mapped within minutes of brief walking
  • Results are easily obtained by visual inspection
  • Can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of custom insoles
  • No other instruments needed, low cost , easy to operate, high efficiency, and time saving.
  •

The MingScan® in-shoe mapping pad which made of TPE-PS is designed to map plantar pressures exerted by brief walking. By using the pad in combination with the MingScan® module (mesh and velcro), the pad will present a client’s plantar pressure by a variety of physical changes: special pressure patterns, changes in thickness, and slight changes in color. A special feature of the pad is that it will remain in full contact with the plantar surface during the entire gait examination, allowing the pad to act as an insole densely covered with sensors. For the majority of the clients, the footprint will also be ingrained onto the pad. The MingScan® pad and module combination is a quick and easy system for foot pressure mapping.

    Material Specialities

    Mapping Pads

  • The MingScan® pad is made of TPE-PS, so it responds to foot pressure with near-permanent imprints.
  • The pad will not tear or crack when under excessive foot pressure.
  • The pad is comfortable to the foot and will not irritate the skin
  • Remains in full contact with the plantar surface during the entire gait examination.
  • Module

  • The special module is composed of a mesh layer and a velcro backing.
  • The hole of the mesh layer is about 3~4 mm in diameter, and will stick to the velcro.
  • Velcro backing contains evenly distributed hooks which will not deform with repetative usage.

     How To Use
  • Select a MingScan® pack with a size that best fits the client’s feet and shoes. Examine the module; fix and realign if needed.
  • Place a blue pad over the mesh side of the module. (See pictures below.) Carefully insert the set into the client’s shoe. Repeat this step for the other shoe.

    Foot Pressure Testing

Conduct a gait examination of 250 steps for each foot (500 steps total) at frequency of approximately 112 steps/minute on a treadmill. For best results, we suggest that patients remove their socks to maximize contact with the maping pad.

    Pressure Analysis

    1. Conduct a visual inspection on left and right pads and gently feel the pad with your thumb and fingers to determine which areas are the thickest /thinnest. The thinnest area(s) indicate the maximum peak pressures (level V). The thinner the area, the larger the foot pressure is.
    2. The side facing the foot will show the footprints with light color changes. The reverse side, which faces the black mesh, will have special imprint patterns that correlate to five levels of pressures. Refer to table and pictures below to identify peak pressures and relative pressures for each area.

    Pressure Patterns

    Pressure level

Patterns from the side facing the mesh
    I
Nearly flat; light imprints of the mesh holes and fabric.
II Light imprints of the mesh holes and fabric. Light imprints of velcro hooks in hole imprints.
III Imprints of the mesh holes and fabric. Very clear imprints of velcro hooks embedded in hole imprints.
IV Strong imprints of the mesh. Hole areas are pushed out with imprints of velcro hooks. Sign of peak pressures
V Pad is very thin, possibly paper-thin with smeared patterns. Signifies the highest peak pressure.
